After a 7 year break, the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) open house is returning, with opportunities for the public to ballot for aircraft rides on the Airbus A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) and the Chinook helicopter.

The MRTT which is an aerial refueling and military transport aircraft, is able to carry out missions such as transporting personnel across large distances.   It is also able to refuel another MRTT In addition to refueling RSAF’s F-16 and F-15SG fighters in midair, making it possible for the refueled A330 to travel further or stay longer in the air on a single flight.

There will be online contests to win seats on these limited flights while members of the public are able to ballot for a ride on the aircraft from mid-July while results will be announced on social media platforms of RSAF.

Chief of Staff-Air Staff, Brigadier-General Chan Ching Hao said on Thursday at a media briefing, that the open house is a part of the RSAF 55th anniversary celebrations.   BG Chan, Chairman of the RSAF55 Steering Committee added that the open house will be held during the September school holidays to attract more families.  The open house will be held on September 9th and 10th at Paya Lebar Air Base.  At this year’s open house Chairman Brigadier-General Amos Yeo stated that approximately 250,000 visitors were expected over the two days.  BG Yeo who is also the Commander of the Air Power Generation Command said that they aim to share their stories with Singaporeans and thank them for their support over the past 55 years.   The event will see the return of the Aster 30 missile system in addition to static displays of fighter aircraft, which are crowd favourites.  On Thursday in order to commemorate the anniversary, the air force also unveiled a new bright blue RSAF55 tail flash on an F-15SG fighter jet.    The last physical open house was held in 2016 while in 2021, it held an online open house owing to covid constraints.  More digital elements will be included at this year’s events to make it more immersive and interactive for eventgoers stated BG Yeo.
