Hotels (Commonwealth Union) _ Heritance Hotels and Resorts, the flagship brand of Aitken Spence Hotels, has proudly announced its partnership with the Galle Literary Festival 2024, demonstrating its commitment to preserving Sri Lanka’s cultural identity.

The festival, scheduled between January 25-28, is a highly anticipated event in South Asia, attracting international authors and attendees for talks, workshops, and exhibitions in a historic setting.

As part of this collaboration, Heritance Hotels and Resorts will host a discussion led by esteemed architects Channa Daswatte, Sunela Jayewardene, and Johann Peiris. Focused on the preservation and re-narration of Sri Lankan cultural histories, this session aligns with the brand’s ethos, emphasizing the harmonious blend of heritage and inheritance in its architecture, design, and experiences.

The partnership with the Galle Literary Festival reinforces Heritance’s commitment to promoting and celebrating Sri Lanka’s diverse cultural tapestry. The brand, a custodian of renowned Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa’s legacy, actively contributes to the dialogue on cultural and architectural preservation. Bawa’s concept of Tropical Modernism, seamlessly blending local traditions, materials, and climate, is vividly manifested in iconic works such as Heritance Kandalama, Heritance Ahungalla, and Heritance Ayurveda. These architectural masterpieces stand as testaments to his innovative approach, harmonizing modern design principles with the rich cultural and environmental context of the tropical regions where they are situated.

Stasshani Jayawardena, Jt. Deputy Chairperson and Jt. Managing Director of Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings, emphasized the profound significance of this collaboration against the backdrop of the Galle Literary Festival. She stated, “It underscores Heritance Hotels and Resorts’ commitment to preserving and aligning with the enduring narrative of our past. Moving beyond the confines of hotels, this signifies a dedicated effort to intricately weave our past into an inspired future; it is a shared endeavor to preserve and thoughtfully re-narrate the intricate cultural histories of Sri Lanka.”.
